Beer Regatta

Good luck to all The Grizzly and Cub runners today. About 2000 runners will take part in this amazing run starting at Seaton beach, through Beer, and across our fantastic countryside raising money for charities and local causes. Well done to Axe Valley Runners, the organisers and all the volunteers and marshals without whom the annual event couldn’t take place.

(Note - much of the run is on the coast path but this photo is not the route!)

Regatta AGM 26th Feb 2020: Chairman’s Report

I hope you agree that Regatta 2019 proved, once again, to be a great week. The weather scuppered some of our plans, and we reluctantly lost some events, but we were lucky to enjoy some lovely sunshine too – particularly on Regatta Day – and even up at Sunday Funday when we thought we might get drenched from the look of the clouds skirting around the field!

Thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy to put on such a fantastic week – whether this was your first year being involved or your hundredth year - I exaggerate but I suspect it feels like forever for some of you. There may not have been 500 of us – I did only have 50 written on my crib sheet on Regatta Day – but it’s a packed week and you should all be very proud of your important contribution – thank you!

I must say a particular thank you to James Green who is stepping down from the Rowing Competition – so if you would be interested in working with John on that event please do let us know. Also a big thank you to Nichola Burley who took on the Fancy Dress Competition last year, and who was very involved with the Scout catering in previous years – so we are also looking for a new person to take on the Fancy Dress – if you are good at herding cats please don’t be shy at coming forward!

We also continue to have great support from local businesses, societies and organisations – we thank them for their involvement, their sponsorship, their advertising and their very generous donations to the Grand Draw. It was lovely to have the Pritchard Family as our ‘Openers’ and, although Peco, as a local business, has always been very supportive of Beer Regatta, I think the Pritchards were all slightly overwhelmed at how much goes on throughout the week.

We had a number of highly successful additions to the programme. The Beer Memories Exhibition understandably proved to be a huge hit and we are very grateful to all those involved – to those who spent endless hours planning and putting the exhibition together, to those who ‘staffed’ it during the time it was open and to those across the community who dug out old photographs or contributed their personal memories to make it so interesting.

We also had a very busy Coffee Morning and Produce Fayre on the Monday, a packed Congregational Church for the Silent Movie Night and a ‘Sold Out’ Regatta Quiz at the Mariners’ Hall – and to think we initially discussed the possibility of a smaller venue for that this time last year! If you, or a Society you belong to, have ideas for future events please do come and raise it with the Regatta Committee – our meetings are open to all and it would be great to have some different events this year too.

We welcomed ‘Jack Ratt’, who made numerous appearances on FB, and proved to be popular with young and old alike – Helen was often stopped so people could have a photo with him! We also further upped our social media profile by being on Instagram, and our new website also went live.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment as we look forward to another great Regatta Week in 2020!

Happy New Year to all from Beer Regatta!

To celebrate the new decade here’s our favourite video from Regatta 2019 - it’s a classic and we loved these guys. We’ve been waiting for the right moment to share it and New Year’s Day felt appropriate as the festivities are now over. This is guaranteed to make you smile 😀

Long Live Beer Regatta!
