Jack Ratt – Beer Regatta’s Smuggler of Fun
We’re delighted to welcome Jack Ratt onto the Regatta Committee. Jack has been named after Beer’s famous smuggler Jack Rattenbury who was born in the village in 1788. Jack Rattenbury was notorious for the smuggling of brandy, gin, rum, tea, tobacco and silk. He had several run ins with HM Coastguard before trying to make a living running a pub in Beer (we wonder if it was the Anchor………). Finding times hard he soon reverted to his old ways.
Our Jack is a good boy who just wants to have fun! See if you can spot him out and about in the village during Regatta and come and say hi to him!
